Assistant/Associate Professor of Clinical Pathology QUALIFICATIONS: The College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Florida seeks an exceptional Veterinary Clinical Pathologist (DVM/VMD degree or equivalent) for a full-time, tenure-accruing faculty position. A PhD degree and a background in translational and collaborative research is preferred in specialties aligned with clinical pathology, including, but not limited to: hematopathology, transfusion medicine, immunopathology/immunodiagnostics, infectious disease, molecular diagnostics, point of care (POC) testing technologies, cytopathology, clinical chemistry, and machine learning and/or biomarker development. Candidates are expected to develop a creative and productive research program. The College of Veterinary Medicine embraces the One Health concept and offers many opportunities for collaborative projects that span animal, human and ecosystem health. Clinical experience and competence in clinical pathology diagnostic service is required. Experience, enthusiasm and effectiveness in graduate and professional student education is desired. Faculty rank and salary will be commensurate with experience of the successful candidate. The successful candidate will be a strong team player interested in contributing and developing their clinical and teaching skills in a healthy, collaborative, and busy clinical teaching environment, and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as strong or potential accomplishment in areas contributing to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). RESPONSIBILITIES: Research/Scholarly Activity: A fundamental requirement of this position is developing a creative and productive research program in relevant fields of interest, to include publishing results in high quality, peer-reviewed scientific journals. The successful applicant is expected to obtain funding and direct research programs that could involve professional students, residents and/or graduate students. Clinical Service: The position includes a clinical commitment to diagnostic service in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH). The individual will be responsible for directing, instructing and supervising veterinary students, residents and visiting scholars; providing diagnostic service; and advising and consulting with clinicians and residents. Teaching: (1) Participation in lectures, discussions, and laboratories in the DVM professional curriculum; (2) participation in the VTH resident training program; and (3) participation in graduate academic programs (MS and PhD). A demonstrated commitment to training veterinary or other biomedical scientists and innovative teaching methods is preferred. College/University Service: Active participation in college or university committees, professional organizations, continuing education and other appropriate outlets is required. The department has a faculty mentoring program in which participation is expected. College of Veterinary Medicine faculty members have opportunities to collaborate with research groups within the University of Florida Health-Shands Hospital system, the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, to include the World Equestrian Center in nearby Ocala, Florida, and the Centers for Environmental and Human Toxicology and Inflammation and Mucosal Immunology, among others. The possibility of an appointment with the University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) and its mission-oriented research can be explored at the time an offer is issued if the successful candidate has research interests that align with this organization’s goals. Big news about the "Big 4" courses!

Hello Foundation friends and supporters, this email will be a little long but please stick with it. Nobody needs to be reminded that this has been a weird couple of years. When we decided to offer a hybrid version of the Descriptive course at Auburn University, we knew it was experimental. Unfortunately, 5 weeks out we have zero registrations for in-person, likely for a lot of reasons including that airfares have gone sky high (groan) and availability is more limited. Many folks are still a little hesitant to travel, and we get that. So, we have some good news and some bad news. I'm a "worst first", rip-the-bandaid-off kind of person, so the BAD news is that we've decided to pull the plug on hybrid and go back to virtual only. Whomp-whomp. We say "bad" because the in-person experience is far superior in that it offers trainees a chance to get away from all of their work and home responsibilities and immerse themselves fully in their education, as well as meet instructors and fellow trainees face-to-face and form lifelong connections. Humans are social creatures, and virtual meetings are not great for helping us form real bonds with each other. People tend to delude themselves that they can multi-task as well as they can single-task, but science says this is a lie (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32206165/) and for that reason the educational experience suffers when people try to wedge courses in amongst other things (so tempting with virtual). OK, the GOOD news is that because we won't have the overhead of speaker travel/housing/meals/catering/room rental, we are rolling prices back to last year's! You know we love you, this is YOUR Foundation, and if we don't have those expenses, we certainly aren't going to pass that added cost on to you. If you have already registered, you will be receiving a refund of the difference between what you paid and the reduced rate, and you should already have gotten an email from Bruce. For those who have yet to register, you can use the same link listed on the website but you will see only four options: member "live", non-member "live", member "rebroadcast", and non-member "rebroadcast". Pro tip: ask your residency coordinator if your institution is a member! (most US vet schools are) Remember that rebroadcast is only the lectures, not any of the mock tests or breakout sessions. Next year, provided things don't get weirder and airfares come back to reality, we will be going back to IN-PERSON ONLY for the Descriptive, CLIIC, and POLA courses because we strongly believe in the power and value of that experience. But never fear, we will be putting on in-person Descriptive courses in Europe and multiple places in Latin America (stay tuned for information!). This position will be in the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL) and the Department of Comparative Pathobiology (CPB) at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. Candidate will perform gross and histopathologic examinations of necropsy and surgical biopsy specimens, write associated reports, and provide diagnostic and health-related support and advice to veterinary clinicians, producers and owners. Candidate will fulfill diagnostics-related teaching assignments in the DVM, veterinary nursing, residency or graduate programs. Important update on the "Big 4" courses!

Dear Foundation members and supporters, Those of you who are mentoring the next generation of pathologists in training programs will soon notice that tuition for three of our "big four" courses (Descriptive, CLIIC [formerly the gross course], and POLA) has increased compared to 2020 and 2021. We wanted to make sure that everyone understands exactly why this is the case. Prior to the pandemic, tuition for these courses was at about $650. This helped to defray the significant costs related to speaker travel, lodging, and meals, as well as things like facility rental, coffee and snacks for breaks, and fees associated with applying for RACE credits. In addition, these courses provided the bulk of funding for our mission in areas of the world that have fewer economic resources. When travel shut down world-wide, we quickly pivoted to a virtual platform, and have provided hundreds of hours of free or low-cost virtual CE via Zoom as well as put up many years' worth of outstanding free material on our YouTube channel. We also overhauled our entire website and enhanced free tools like Noah's Arkive and scanned slides, all of which requires greatly increased server space and cloud storage. Needless to say, all of this adds up to a significant commitment of resources from the Foundation. This year, we are moving to a hybrid format for these three courses, because while we firmly believe that the in-person experience is very valuable, we also understand that not everyone will be able to travel, for various reasons. This means that we will have all the expenses of an in-person course, plus all the expenses and challenge of a virtual course. But, hey, you're worth it! It seemed unfair to us to put all these expenses only onto those who are attending in-person, so we decided to spread it out. The result is that even for in-person attendees, tuition is still $100 lower than it was pre-pandemic! A bargain for sure for the many (and believe me, I mean MANY) hours that our dedicated lecturers and course directors put into making these courses so great. In closing, we want to offer a gentle reminder that the Foundation is a registered non-profit organization that is 100% volunteer driven, and 100% of the revenue generated by these courses pays for our mission globally. Thank you for your continued support as we grow, adapt, and work tirelessly to make high quality veterinary and comparative pathology education available for all.
