This one day, completely virtual, seminar will include case presentations and a keynote lecture by Dr. Michelle Dennis, Associate Professor at University of Tennessee, and co-guest editor of the special issue of Veterinary Pathology on Invertebrate Pathology. Dr. Dennis’s research focuses on aquatic invertebrate diseases, and will be highlighted in her presentation titled “Emerging Diseases in Wild Aquatic Invertebrates.” Following the keynote presentation, the seminar will feature 15 minute case presentations on the gross and microscopic pathology of air, land, and aquatic invertebrates. OK, a few folks have had extenuating circumstances and we inadvertently failed to add a deadline on the website event so if you wanted to go to Foundations of Pathology but got locked out then today's your lucky day! We will be re-opening registration for Foundations of Pathology in just a little while, and it will close at 12 noon CDT tomorrow. Absolutely no exceptions after that...there is a lot that happens behind-the-scenes after you register and last minute registrations create a lot of extra work for our volunteers. Please remember the following things: 1. You must have a Davis-Thompson Foundation account to register, and you must register using the email you used to make your D-T website account. If you need to use a different email, you need to FIRST log in to your D-T account, click the little person icon in the upper right corner and change the email address associated with your account. This is how the website associates your registration ticket with all the other things related to the course: Canvas access to get lectures and materials, certificates, surveys, etc. 1. Please if at all possible register yourself. If you need to use someone else's credit card to pay that's fine but do not put in their information, put in yours! This makes things so much simpler. Training program supervisors: if you have new residents who may not yet be on this list, please forward and also tell them to follow us on whatever social media platforms they use. *Tenure Track Clinical Pathology Position* *North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine* The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at North Carolina State University invites applications for a tenure track Clinical Pathology position at the rank of Assistant/ Associate Professor. A DVM (or equivalent) degree and ACVP or ECVP board certification or eligibility are required. A PhD in a related discipline is desired. The successful candidate will join our dynamic and collegial team of clinical pathology faculty, residents, and a well-staffed Clinical Pathology Laboratory. This position contributes to the teaching, research and service mission of the Population Health and Pathobiology Department. The candidate is expected to teach DVM students, provide clinical service for the hospitals, participate in resident and graduate student training, and provide support for the clinical pathology laboratory. Teaching commitments will include didactic and clinical year student courses, small group teaching, elective courses, and mentoring of students. The candidate is expected to develop a research program that advances the field of clinical pathology through the application of diagnostic tools, exploration of mechanisms of disease, pedagogical exploration, and / or applied clinical research; research is both independent and collaborative. Research is expected to complement existing areas of strength within the department and college while meeting the needs of residents and stakeholders. The University of Minnesota (UMN) Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) is looking for one or more, board-certified veterinary anatomic pathologists to provide flexible, contract remote diagnostic support for the UMN-VMC Surgical Biopsy Service. The samples primarily originate from our surgery, oncology, and internal medicine services with approximately 2-5 cases per day. Responsibilities of the position comprise the review of digital slides, the timely provision of reports containing descriptive and diagnostic information befitting an academic tertiary care center, and electronic availability for UMN-VMC clinician communication. Reports should also provide up-to-date interpretive and additional staining and diagnostic recommendations. As necessary, additional immunohistochemical or special stains can be requested. The working hours are up to the discretion of the pathologist with an expectation that reports be generated in a timely fashion following case upload. The surgical biopsy service is primarily focused on canine and feline patients with infrequent large animal submissions. Call for submissions JVDI call for submissions on Interstitial lung disease in domestic animals. Interstitial lung diseases frequently represent a diagnostic challenge for veterinary diagnosticians. This challenge can be identified at all stages of diagnosis, particularly with gross and histologic interpretation. Moreover, each animal species varies in pulmonary physiology, pathology, and frequency of different diseases, which add more layers of complexity to this already-difficult pattern. We aim to expand our knowledge of this intricate pattern to better investigate our lung submissions, describe lesions, and finally diagnose interstitial lung diseases. We are inviting submissions to a JVDI special section on *Interstitial lung disease in domestic animals* to be guest edited by Dr. Francisco R. Carvallo, Virginia Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, Virginia Tech, and Dr. Jeff Caswell, Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph. If you are interested, please submit an abstract of up to 250 words describing your proposed topic by September 30, 2024. Primary research papers, case series, and reviews of a focused topic will be considered, as will single-animal case reports if they are novel and include a review of the literature on the focused topic of the report. For abstracts on topics considered suitable for the special issue, authors will be notified by October 30, 2024, and full submissions will be expected by April 30, 2025. Submitted manuscripts will proceed through the usual JVDI peer-review and editorial processes, with publications expected in the fall of 2025. Call for papers on the pathology of humanized mouse models for an upcoming special edition of Veterinary Pathology

*Call for papers on the pathology of humanized mouse models* ** Over the last decade, the use of humanized mouse models engrafted with a variety of tissues and cells of human origin has become one of the experimental paradigms most frequently used in translational research. This has been possible thanks to the establishment of genetically engineered mice with severely impaired innate and adaptive immune systems, such as NSG or NOG mice, offering a highly permissive recipient environment for the functional integration of the xenotransplanted human components. Humanized mouse models have been successfully employed for diverse experimental applications, including patient-derived tumor xenograft (PDX) models, preclinical testing of cellular immunotherapies, and other non-neoplastic human diseases. However, a series of unintended post-transplant disorders have been characterized in recent years. These disorders are clinically relevant for mouse recipients, limiting their usage, especially for longer-term studies, and represent potential experimental confounders for interpreting preclinical data. Given the increasing importance of humanized mice, raising awareness of inherent limitations and unintended consequences of human chimerism is paramount to better understanding the preclinical relevance and translational potential of these models. To this aim, veterinary and comparative pathologists working with immunocompromised and humanized mouse models are uniquely positioned to help define the spectrum of experimentally induced and spontaneous (infectious and noninfectious) conditions affecting these chimeric animals through intentional and pathological characterization. Therefore, the journal *Veterinary Pathology* is issuing a call for papers for a special issue on "The Pathology of Humanized Mouse Models" and encouraging submission of primary research papers. *Veterinary Pathology <https://uze9evdbb.cc.rs6.net/tn.jsp?f=001Lxf0z2n2WJxqiFGETVwGGTEeUeUSAFkf0P…>* is the journal of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, the European College of Veterinary Pathologists, and the Japanese College of Veterinary Pathologists. (3) Assessment of the pathology endpoints in preclinical studies using mouse recipients for human cellular immunotherapies.
