*Anatomic Veterinary Pathologist - ONPRC* *Department Overview* The Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) <https://www.ohsu.edu/xd/research/centers-institutes/onprc/> is located 12 miles west of the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, a pond, and 2-mile perimeter walking path. Our mission is to improve human health and the quality of life through the support of nonhuman primate research programs that advance our knowledge of the causes, preventions, treatments, and cures of debilitating diseases. *Function/Duties of Position* This position is for a veterinary pathologist at the assistant or associate professor level within the Pathology Services Unit (PSU) of the Division of Comparative Medicine <https://www.ohsu.edu/onprc/division-comparative-medicine> which provides advanced comparative pathology services to ONPRC core scientists, veterinarians, and OHSU affiliate, and external investigators. The veterinary pathologist provides diagnostic services and reports, in support of research studies and clinical cases, through post mortem examinations (gross and microscopic), interpretation of clinical pathology, microbiology, and other ancillary test results. The veterinary pathologist must communicate clearly with end users – research staff and veterinarians. This position serves the ONPRC research mission through research-directed post mortem examinations, aid in study design, provision of tissues through the Tissue Distribution Program, identification of new disease entities, and further characterization of well-recognized diseases in NHPs. The veterinary pathologist provides training for pre and post graduate veterinarians through participation in on campus externships and residency programs as well as the support of a post graduate training position in NHP pathology. The veterinary pathologist serves as a local and national resource for expertise in NHP pathology and participates in dissemination of findings through publications in peer-reviewed journals, scientific meeting presentations, and innovative resources such as the Primate Pathology Image Database. *Required Qualifications* - D.V.M./V.M.D. degree from a veterinary school accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association - Three years diagnostic pathology experience (may be part of post-DVM residency training) - Ability to communicate effectively in English, in written and oral formats - Strong organizational and interpersonal skills - ACVP or ECVP board eligibility in Anatomic Pathology - Perform work in a laboratory setting, with potential risk of exposure to hazardous chemicals, human and monkey tissue potentially containing agents infectious to humans including *Macacine herpesvirus 1*, other biohazardous agents, and dry ice - Some work conducted at Animal Biosafety Level 3 - Ability to carry and lift up to 20 lbs - Ability to stand for up to four hours per day - Adequate manual dexterity and visual acuity to perform tissue dissections, gross and microscopic evaluations, and operate a microscope - Ability to wear required personal protective equipment including powered air purifying respirator (PAPR) - Able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation *Preferred Qualifications* - Ph.D. in pathology-related area of study - NHP pathology experience - Six months or more post DVM clinical experience - Six months or more of research experience - Management experience - ACVP or ECVP board certification in Anatomic Pathology *Additional Details* Apply online at https://facultycareers-ohsu.icims.com/jobs/12638/veterinary-pathologist/job . DIRECTOR, VETERINARY SERVICE CENTER ANIMAL DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORY DEPARTMENT OF COMPARATIVE MEDICINE STANFORD UNIVERSITY The Department of Comparative Medicine at Stanford University is currently seeking a veterinary clinical pathologist to serve as the Director for the Veterinary Service Center (VSC) Animal Diagnostic Laboratory. A DVM/VMD degree and ACVP or ECVP board certification or board eligibility is required. Academic rank (Assistant, Associate, Full Professor) and line (University Medical Line, Clinician Educator) will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. • The major criteria for appointment in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. • The major criterion for appointment as Clinician Educators is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. Applicants should have a working knowledge of veterinary clinical pathology for a variety of species, including common laboratory animal species, especially rodents, swine and sheep, nonhuman primates and aquatics. Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, rodent strain-related idiosyncrasies, testing and interpretation, molecular diagnostics, bacteriology, biosafety and quality assurance, and health surveillance protocols in a laboratory animal setting is highly desirable. Additional responsibilities include outreach and consultation with research laboratories, assistance with study design, and working one-on-one with researchers (principal investigators, post-doctoral students, graduate students, and research laboratory staff). There were technical issues in getting a call out for the November DTF issue, but the window is now open! Dr. Donald McGavin and I review every submission and discuss each one in detail. POSTED August 20, 2021 UNIVERSITY OF PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND ATLANTIC VETERINARY COLLEGE DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES ELEVEN AND A HALF (11.5) MONTH TERM POSITION DIAGNOSTIC FISH PATHOLOGIST COMPETITION #31A21 The Diagnostic Services Laboratory, Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island, invites applicants for a contract term position in fish pathology. This is a full-time, term contract position starting immediately for eleven and one-half months, with the possibility of extension. The successful candidate will be working with and collaborating with the current diagnostic fish pathologist. The primary responsibility will be to perform and report on necropsy and histopathology examinations of fin-fish and shellfish samples submitted to the AVC Diagnostic Service Laboratory. The clients of this service include researchers, provincial and private aquaculture veterinarians in the four Atlantic Provinces as well as researchers and / or aquatic laboratories nationally and internationally. The successful candidate will consult with diagnostic services bacteriology, virology, clinical pathology, toxicology and parasitology units. Dear colleagues Please find attached the October issue of the Davis-Thompson Foundation Newsletter. In addition to our two wonderful editors Stephanie Shrader and Javier Asin, this month we welcome Dr Jeann Leal, our colleague and long term visual artist, to the editorial team of the DTF newsletter. Welcome Jeann. Amongst the many training opportunities offered by the Foundation in October, we are particularly proud to announce our first hybrid seminar, which started yesterday and will conclude today in Galveston, Texas with a great turn out both in person and virtually. This first-time hybrid seminar will be followed soon (October 23) by the symposium on Pathology of transboundary diseases, during the annual meeting of the AAVLD, which will also be held in a hybrid format.
