*Senior Clinical Veterinarian - Comparative Medicine- JR74573* * Job Description Summary* This position is for an experienced laboratory animal veterinarian for the preventative, emergency and clinical veterinary medical care of the laboratory animals used in the Washington University (St. Louis) research program. Join our team of veterinarians in providing laboratory animal services to the research staff at Washington University’s AAALAC-accredited program. The Division of Comparative Medicine is embarking on an exciting growth phase, with completion and occupancy of a new animal facility in late 2023, and further development of its existing programs in gnotobiotics, large animal surgery, non-human primate medicine, and laboratory diagnostics. The new facility will have a state-of-the-art vertical vivarium design with the capacity to hold over 35,000 cages of rodents. Consistently ranked among the top medical schools by U.S. News and World Report, Washington University School of Medicine is one of the largest recipients of funding for research and training from the National Institutes of Health. *Job Details, Primary Duties & Responsibilities* Provide veterinary medical care and surgical services to research animals. Regulatory Compliance, protocol review and IACUC participation. Animal model development and consultation with research staff. Assists with facility management within their assigned facility. Other duties as assigned. *Preferred Qualifications* Eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Missouri. Accreditation by the USDA. Broad knowledge of laboratory animal health/medicine, diagnostics, pathology, treatment, surgical procedures and clinical care of a wide variety of research animal species. Demonstrated decision making skills with ability to work meeting goals and deadlines. Ability to work collaboratively with principal investigators, research staff, veterinary staff, veterinary technicians, and husbandry staff. Strong knowledge of all applicable federal regulations, standards and guidelines for all vertebrate animals used in teaching and research, including familiarity with AAALAC-International accreditation standards, as demonstrated in work history and credentials. *Minimum Requirements* Candidates must hold a DVM or equivalent degree from an AVMA Council on Education accredited veterinary college or school. Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM). Seven years of experience serving as a laboratory animal veterinarian. Effective written, verbal, interpersonal communication, and organizational skills with ability to effectively interact with all levels of the DCM and research staff. Dear colleagues, Welcome to the June issue of the Davis-Thompson Foundation Newsletter, courtesy of our great Managing Editors, Javier Asin and Jean Leal. Thank you, Javier and Jeann. This is a fantastic issue with a large amount of information on training activities and much more. To start with, another very successful version of the 2023 Descriptive Veterinary Pathology Course is coming to an end this week. On the same line, remember that the Current Literature and Image Interpretation Course (CLIIC; formerly "the Gross Course") and the Current Laboratory Animal Science Seminar (CLASS) and Pathology of Laboratory Animals (POLA) courses come up very soon. Both courses are a must for trainees preparing for board certification. A new addition to the 2023 calendar of training activities is a hands-on workshop on necropsy of racehorses, coming up on August 18-19. This course was developed in response to the new rule by the US Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA) establishing that all horses that die at a racetrack under the jurisdiction of HISA must undergo a necropsy examination. If you work at a laboratory that receives racehorses for necropsy, this course is for you. Seats are limited; please consider registering soon. Last but not least, this month we are also proud to welcome the Australian Society for Veterinary Pathology (ASVP) corner in our newsletter. In this section, we reproduce a selection of cases from the March 2023 edition of The Scope, the newsletter of the ASVP. We hope you enjoy this great material. The Department of Veterinary Pathobiology at Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine (OSU CVM) invites applications for a tenure-track position in anatomic pathology at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor joining an established, collegial pathology team of six anatomic pathologists and three clinical pathologists. The successful candidate will be expected to develop and sustain an extramurally funded research program in an area of their interest with at least 60% of the assignment devoted to research. The research program should complement the College’s interactive and dynamic research environment committed to investigating infectious diseases of animals and humans. Opportunities to participate in departmental teaching and service programs will comprise the remaining assignment. The successful candidate is encouraged to participate in the Comparative Biomedical Science graduate program contributing to graduate teaching and inclusive mentoring. Participation in College service committees is expected. The College and University have excellent research support facilities including multiple BSL-3 laboratories and ABSL-3 animal housing rooms, Immunopathology Core Facility, Microbial Culturomicsand Germfree Animal Model Core Facility, Center for Genomics and Proteomics, Oklahoma Statewide Shared Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Facility, Recombinant DNA/Protein Resource Facility, Electron Microscopy Laboratory, and High-Performance Computing Center. Start-up funds and technical support are available to assist in the establishment of a successful research program.
