*Anatomic Veterinary Pathologist - ONPRC* *Department Overview* The Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) <https://www.ohsu.edu/xd/research/centers-institutes/onprc/> is located 12 miles west of the OHSU main campus, and sits on 162 acres of land featuring forested areas, research and administration buildings, indoor and outdoor animal housing, a pond, and 2-mile perimeter walking path. Our mission is to improve human health and the quality of life through the support of nonhuman primate research programs that advance our knowledge of the causes, preventions, treatments, and cures of debilitating diseases. *Function/Duties of Position* This position is for a veterinary pathologist at the assistant or associate professor level within the Pathology Services Unit (PSU) of the Division of Comparative Medicine <https://www.ohsu.edu/onprc/division-comparative-medicine> which provides advanced comparative pathology services to ONPRC core scientists, veterinarians, and OHSU affiliate, and external investigators. The veterinary pathologist provides diagnostic services and reports, in support of research studies and clinical cases, through post mortem examinations (gross and microscopic), interpretation of clinical pathology, microbiology, and other ancillary test results. The veterinary pathologist must communicate clearly with end users – research staff and veterinarians. This position serves the ONPRC research mission through research-directed post mortem examinations, aid in study design, provision of tissues through the Tissue Distribution Program, identification of new disease entities, and further characterization of well-recognized diseases in NHPs. The veterinary pathologist provides training for pre and post graduate veterinarians through participation in on campus externships and residency programs as well as the support of a post graduate training position in NHP pathology. DIRECTOR, VETERINARY SERVICE CENTER ANIMAL DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORY DEPARTMENT OF COMPARATIVE MEDICINE STANFORD UNIVERSITY The Department of Comparative Medicine at Stanford University is currently seeking a veterinary clinical pathologist to serve as the Director for the Veterinary Service Center (VSC) Animal Diagnostic Laboratory. A DVM/VMD degree and ACVP or ECVP board certification or board eligibility is required. Academic rank (Assistant, Associate, Full Professor) and line (University Medical Line, Clinician Educator) will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate. • The major criteria for appointment in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. • The major criterion for appointment as Clinician Educators is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. This is a full-time, term contract position starting immediately for eleven and one-half months, with the possibility of extension. Welcome Jeann. Amongst the many training opportunities offered by the Foundation in October, we are particularly proud to announce our first hybrid seminar, which started yesterday and will conclude today in Galveston, Texas with a great turn out both in person and virtually. This first-time hybrid seminar will be followed soon (October 23) by the symposium on Pathology of transboundary diseases, during the annual meeting of the AAVLD, which will also be held in a hybrid format. Fellowship in Comparative and Genomic Pathology

The Laboratory of Comparative Pathology (LCP) of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Weill Cornell Medical College, Hospital for Special Surgery, and The Rockefeller University is accepting applications for a 15-month postdoctoral fellowship in comparative and genomic pathology for veterinary pathology trainees seeking to advance their knowledge in these disciplines. The fellow takes advantage of a large and diverse laboratory animal caseload and state-of-the-art facilities housed within the LCP, providing capacity for necropsy, histology, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, whole slide digital image analysis, hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, parasitology, and serology. Other core facilities housed within the institutions provide access to in vivo imaging, transmission and scanning electron microscopy, confocal microscopy, and laser capture microdissection equipment and expertise. Responsibilities include performing gross pathologic and histopathologic examinations of a variety of laboratory animal species (mice, rats, hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs, pigs, non-human primates, fish, amphibians), interpreting findings, preparing reports, and communicating with clinical veterinarians and research personnel. Scientific collaborations and publications are encouraged. Supervision by 3 board-certified pathologists (ACVP and/or ECVP) is provided. The fellow participates in didactic activities held jointly with the Tri-Institutional Training Program in Laboratory Animal Medicine & Science, including Histopathology and Gross Pathology Rounds, Clinical and Pathology Conference, Laboratory Animal Medicine Seminar Series, and Journal Club. Applicants must possess a DVM/VMD from an AVMA-accredited or equivalent institution and have completed at least 2 years of residency anatomic pathology training. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed 3 year of anatomic pathology training. Salary is based on the NIH post-doctoral scale and commensurate with experience. Department of Comparative Pathobiology* *Tufts University: Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine:* *Location* North Grafton, MA *Open Date* September 30, 2021 *Description* The Department of Comparative Pathobiology in Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University is seeking highly motivated diagnostic anatomic pathology faculty to support our diagnostic pathology and teaching missions. We seek applicants who are successful educators with the ability and desire to mentor residents and DVM students in the art of the necropsy, exhibit strong diagnostic skills, have the ability to interpret samples from a variety of species, and can work closely with and support the clinicians in our hospitals and clinics. Positions may be at the rank of assistant, associate, or professor in the clinical track. The veterinary diagnostic laboratory manages a robust anatomic pathology caseload consisting of primarily dogs, cats, exotics and zoologic species, lesser numbers of horses, alpacas, and small ruminants originating primarily from our academic hospitals and clinics. Our service also has access to wild animals through our wildlife clinic. The diagnostic anatomic pathology laboratory processes approximately 2,300 biopsies and 550 necropsies per year. With cases coming from both primary and tertiary care facilities, we see a rich diversity of cases, both common and unique, providing ample teaching resources and supporting research and scholarly activity. Teaching opportunities occur across the four years of the DVM program and includes small group, classroom, clinical skills, and fourth year diagnostic rotations. The service supports 3 anatomic pathology residents, and faculty are expected to assist in the supervision and training of our residents. Clinical track faculty members are expected to engage in sufficient research and scholarly activity to remain at the forefront of their discipline. For individuals with the appropriate interests and expertise, opportunities for engagement in independent and collaborative research are available. Dr. George Migaki, 1917-2021

It is with great regret that I announce the passing of Dr. George Migaki, formerly of the Registry of Veterinary Pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. George was a pioneer in the comparative pathology of zoo and wildlife animals (and one of the first veterinary pathologists to take an interest in the pathology of marine mammals) as well as laboratory animals. He was the author of innumerable papers of animal models in conjunction with the Journal of Comparative Pathology and many other journals. A cursory search of "Migaki G veterinary" in either Pubmed or Google will quickly document his massive contributions to our field. I met George as a first-day resident and we struck up an fast friendship based on our combined intense curiosity for all things pathological.Every day, for the first two weeks of my residency, George would invite me into his office to show my a slide and ask me for my diagnosis. I would give my best shot (which wasn't much) and he would clap and exclaim with glee, "It's just autolysis!" I fell for that every day for two weeks until I myself one day said "Autolysis?" Then the real teaching began, and he was an amazing instructor, mentor, and colleague. George was a veteran of WWII - an American soldier of Japanese descent (which requires no more explanation) - and we would talk every year on Veteran's Day. He was incredibly kind, a true gentleman, and one of the unsung heroes (which was fine with him) of our field. Godspeed my friend.... In the first day seminar, the speakers will address important issues in tumor diagnostics and grading including, the importance of standardization, proper interpretation of mitotic figures and calculating mitotic counts, evaluating necrosis in tumors, breaking down the melanoma protocol, and computational aspects of tumor grading. Responsibilities: 1. Diagnostic service: The faculty member will participate in the autopsy and surgical biopsy services of the college’s Applied Pathology service. Service duties include: performing standard post-mortem examinations as well as forensic and legal post-mortems; serving as senior pathologist for the biopsy service, and supervising anatomic pathology residents and veterinary students. 2. Teaching: The faculty member will participate in clinical training of veterinary students as part of the senior student rotation in Applied Pathology and pathology residents in the Combined Anatomic Pathology Residency/PhD Graduate Training Program. Didactic teaching responsibilities will include participation in the professional veterinary medical curriculum and in the courses provided to pathology residents in the Combined Program. 3. Research and scholarly activity: The faculty member will contribute to collaborative research and scholarly activity synergistic with the College’s research, teaching, and clinical service missions. Qualifications: Applicants must have a DVM (or equivalent) from an AVMA-accredited or equivalent institution and be board certified or board eligible in anatomic pathology by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists or the European College of Veterinary Pathology. A PhD or other advanced training in anatomic pathology is highly desirable.
