A Veterinary Anatomic Pathologist position will be available from April 1, 2024 to October 31, 2024 with the possibility of an extension. This position will be in the Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (ADDL) and the Department of Comparative Pathobiology (CPB) at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine. Candidate will perform gross and histopathologic examinations of necropsy and surgical biopsy specimens, write associated reports, and provide diagnostic and health-related support and advice to veterinary clinicians, producers and owners. Candidate will fulfill diagnostics-related teaching assignments in the DVM, veterinary nursing, residency or graduate programs. Like every month, our newsletter comes loaded with information about the myriad training opportunities offered by the Foundation in several languages all over the world. Our classic Descriptive Veterinary Pathology Course is being reimagined. We are working together with the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in what we expect to be a 3-day virtual component followed by a 2-half-day in-person component at the 2024 ACVP/ASVCP Annual Meeting. Comparative Pathologist Penn Vet Comparative Pathology Core, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, USA *Job Description:* The Penn Vet Comparative Pathology Core (CPC) at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for a research fellow position in experimental and comparative pathology. The CPC is an established core facility within the Department of Pathobiology and a fully integrated shared resource within the NIH/NCI-funded Abramson Cancer Center since 2015. The main mission of the CPC is to provide expert pathological characterization of experimental animal models to fulfill the growing needs of the local biomedical community performing in vivo studies as part of their basic and translational research endeavors. In this context, the CPC plays a vital role as it supports several major research programs within the University of Pennsylvania and closely related institutes such as the Abramson Cancer Center, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and the Wistar Institute. To accomplish its mission, the CPC offers the expertise of board-certified veterinary pathologists and access to a state-of-the-art platform for histology services, molecular staining of tissue samples, and digital pathology. This position will primarily contribute to the mission of the CPC by providing expertise in experimental and comparative pathology. Main responsibilities and duties include: · Expert interpretation of pathological endpoints in the context of diverse preclinical/experimental settings with accurate and timely reporting of pathological findings. While humanized and genetically engineered mice represent the majority of the caseload, studies using rats, dogs, non-human primates, sheep, and pigs are also frequently performed. · Interaction with scientists and investigators to design experiments, discuss results and plan follow-up studies as pertain to the specific research context. · Provide guidance to investigators, students, and laboratory technicians in all those activities and techniques related to comparative pathology (e.g., necropsy, sample preparation, development of multiparametric histopathological scoring system, digital image analysis, etc.). · Contribute to the general management and supervision of routine laboratory activities/services. · Contribute to the teaching/training of veterinary pathology residents and veterinary students rotating with the CPC. This position represents a unique opportunity for candidates who want to deepen their understanding of comparative pathology applied to the most innovative aspects of translational research including the study of in vivo models for cellular therapies (e.g., CAR T cells, stem cells, and mRNA-based therapeutics). Texas Biomed seeks to recruit an *Anatomic Veterinary Pathologist for a faculty position *(open rank). The position provides service activities in Anatomic Veterinary Pathology (NHP and rodent models) that synergize with the Institute’s three Scientific Research Programs (*https://* www.txbiomed.org/research/) to foster Texas Biomed’s efforts to become national/international leaders in infectious disease research, and research on vulnerable and susceptible populations. Texas Biomedical Research Institute has strong programs in areas of infectious diseases, neuroscience and metabolic diseases and provides access to state-of-the-art technologies including genomics (including single cell RNA and DNA sequencing), high parameter immunophenotyping and flow cytometry, and whole-body large animal imaging using PET/CT. The successful candidate will share responsibilities with three other veterinary pathologists for diagnostic and research support for about ~2500 nonhuman primates, a small rodent colony and ABSL-3 and ABSL-4 containment laboratories. Will assist in training programs and collaborate with intramural and extramural investigators. Domestic and international travel may be required. Will report to the Lead Pathologist. Will be able to align research interests with one or more thematic programs within Texas Biomedical Research Institute: Host-pathogen Interactions; Disease Intervention and Prevention; or Population Health. Opportunities to develop an independent research program are available if desired. Qualifications: Required: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from AVMA accredited University or equivalent international training. Board Certified by American College of Veterinary Pathologists, European College of Veterinary Pathologists or Japanese College of Veterinary Pathologists, although board eligible candidates will be considered. Preferred: Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in one of the 50 United States. Residency training or advanced degree and substantial experience in nonhuman primate clinical and anatomic pathology. Strong knowledge of nonhuman primate pathology and working knowledge of pathology laboratory equipment. Knowledge/experience in molecular pathology, stereological techniques and HALO software. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with scientists in biomedical research and interdisciplinary research teams. Strong knowledge in computer use. The Laboratory of Comparative Pathology (LCP) of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Weill Cornell Medical College, Hospital for Special Surgery, and The Rockefeller University is accepting applications for a 15-month postdoctoral fellowship in comparative and genomic pathology for veterinary pathology trainees seeking to advance their knowledge in these disciplines. The fellow takes advantage of a large and diverse laboratory animal caseload and state-of-the-art facilities housed within the LCP, providing capacity for necropsy, histology, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, whole slide digital image analysis, hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, parasitology, and serology. Other core facilities housed within the institutions provide access to in vivo imaging, transmission and scanning electron microscopy, confocal microscopy, and laser capture microdissection equipment and expertise. Responsibilities include performing gross pathologic and histopathologic examinations of a variety of laboratory animal species (mice, rats, hamsters, rabbits, guinea pigs, pigs, non-human primates, fish, amphibians), interpreting findings, preparing reports, and communicating with clinical veterinarians and research personnel. Scientific collaborations and publications are encouraged. Supervision by 3 board- certified pathologists (ACVP and/or ECVP) is provided. The fellow participates in didactic activities held jointly with the Tri-Institutional Training Program in Laboratory Animal Medicine & Science, including Histopathology and Gross Pathology Rounds, Clinical and Pathology Conference, Laboratory Animal Medicine Seminar Series, and Journal Club. Applicants must possess a DVM/VMD from an AVMA-accredited or equivalent institution and have completed at least 2 years of residency anatomic pathology training. Preference will be given to candidate who have completed 3 years of anatomic veterinary pathology training. Salary is based on the NIH post- doctoral scale and commensurate with experience. The start date is on October 1st of each year, and the application deadline is February 28, 2024. Dear colleagues Welcome to the February 2024 issue of the Davis Thompson Newsletter prepared by our outstanding managing editors, Javier Asin and Jeann Leal. This issue comes, as usual, with myriad information on all our training activities around the globe, in English, Portuguese and Spanish. By the time you receive these pages, the first of the Foundation's "Big 4", our 2024 General Pathology Review Course, will be in full swing and scheduled to finish on February the 8th with a special mock exam. This course is being offered fully online. Registration for the other three of the "Big 4" (CLIIC, POLA and Descriptive Pathology Course) will open soon. Keep an eye out for them. Starting this month, we will be featuring a case of the Western Round Robin, a slide conference that has been running for 30+ years among veterinary diagnostic laboratories. This year, for the first time, the conference is being held digitally and the slides submitted by the participating laboratories are uploaded to Noah's slidebox. Thanks a lot to all the participants! Last but not least, I want to highlight again our great Volunteer Appreciation Campaign that started last year and will continue for the foreseeable future. *ROLE DESCRIPTION:* Zoetis Reference Laboratories (ZRL) is currently seeking a full-time Anatomic Pathologist for the US reference laboratory business. Zoetis Reference Labs is a new division of Zoetis Global Diagnostics. Responsibilities of this role will primarily involve interpretation of histopathology samples and consultation with veterinarian clients. Histopathology at Zoetis Reference Laboratories is almost entirely digitized, and this position can be remote, based in the United States. A pathologist interested in working onsite in the Louisville laboratory is preferred. The successful candidate must have a passion for supporting the veterinary community. This is a values-driven organization where service is the priority. *RESPONSIBILITES:* - Examine digitized and rarely glass histopathology slides (histochemical and immunohistochemical stains) to generate reports that include diagnoses, microscopic descriptions, photomicrographs, and pertinent comments. - Correlate ancillary test results with pathology findings and case information - Consult with referring veterinarians on cases and general anatomic pathology questions - Share subject matter expertise via internal consultations with other anatomic pathologists and occasionally with other veterinary specialists (clinical pathologists, etc.) - Participate in various laboratory initiatives/committees beyond diagnostic cases, including recruiting/interviewing, SOP/policy development, and discussions to increase team efficiency *QUALIFICATIONS:* - DVM (or equivalent) - ACVP/ECVP Certified or has completed an anatomic pathology residency training program and is eligible for board certification. - A state license to practice veterinary medicine or eligibility to acquire a state license *KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:* - *Required:* - Strong diagnostic skills in general anatomic pathology - Strong verbal and written communication skills in English - Highest level interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work as a collaborative team member. - Able to work at a fast pace while maintaining a high level of quality/accuracy - Flexible to changing methods and technologies. - *Strongly preferred:* 1.
