The meeting is scheduled for IN PERSON, at the Sofitel, Athens International Airport. The symposium will be run in conjunction with the ESVP/ECVP annual meeting. Comparative Pathologist Penn Vet Comparative Pathology Core, School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania, USA Job Description: The Penn Vet Comparative Pathology Core (CPC) at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for a research fellow position in experimental and comparative pathology. The CPC is an established core facility within the Department of Pathobiology and a fully integrated shared resource within the NIH/NCI-funded Abramson Cancer Center since 2015. The main objective of the CPC is to provide expert pathological characterization of experimental animal models to fulfill the growing needs of the local biomedical community performing in vivo studies as part of their basic and translational research endeavors. In this context, the CPC plays a vital role as it supports several major research programs within the University of Pennsylvania and closely related institutes such as the Abramson Cancer Center, the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, and the Wistar Institute. To accomplish its mission, the CPC offers the expertise of board-certified veterinary pathologists and access to a state-of-the-art platform for histology services, molecular staining of tissue samples, and digital pathology. This position will primarily contribute to the mission of the CPC by providing expertise in experimental and comparative pathology. Main responsibilities and duties include: • Expert interpretation of pathological endpoints in the context of diverse preclinical/experimental settings with accurate and timely reporting of pathological findings. While humanized and genetically engineered mice represent the majority of the caseload, studies using rats, dogs, non-human primates, sheep, and pigs are also frequently performed. • Interaction with scientists and investigators to design experiments, discuss results and plan follow-up studies as pertain to the specific research context. • Provide guidance to investigators, students, and laboratory technicians in all those activities and techniques related to comparative pathology (e.g., necropsy, sample preparation, development of multiparametric histopathological scoring system, digital image analysis, etc.). • Contribute to the general management and supervision of routine laboratory activities/services. • Contribute to the teaching/training of veterinary pathology residents and veterinary students rotating with the CPC. This position represents a unique opportunity for candidates who want to deepen their understanding of comparative pathology applied to the most innovative aspects of translational research including the study of in vivo models for cellular therapies (e.g., CAR T cells and stem cells). While the primary role of this position is to support the service activities of the CPC, the program offers ample opportunity to carry out independent projects focused on developing accurate clinicopathological strategies to assess the phenotype of new and existing experimental animal models Qualifications: Applicants should have a DVM/VMD and be board-eligible or board-certified in Anatomic Pathology by the American, European, or Japanese College of Veterinary Pathologists; experience with rodent pathology and digital image analysis is desirable. PostDoc/Fellow in Comparative Pathology The Comparative Experimental Pathology (CEP, head: PD Dr. Katja Steiger) in the Institute of Pathology of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) is Germany’s largest comparative pathology unit with 2 veterinary pathologists, 2-3 residents (german board certification, “Fachtierarzt”) and 9 technicians working under one roof with 15 surgical (human) pathologists. Our integrated setup allows the evaluation of animal models of human diseases comparatively to human pathology. Our interdisciplinary team of pathologists discusses interesting findings on a daily basis internally and with our project partners in biomedical research. We are a fully integrated part of the biomedical community in Munich and dedicated to collaborative research. We offer a unique comparative pathology setup with a fully equipped laboratory (including several IHC machines) focussed on tissue-based research requests. The unit also benefits from a research interface to the Molecular Pathology Unit of the Institute of Pathology of the TUM, allowing additional research on comparative molecular pathology in spontaneous diseases of domestic animals. Our equipment includes several slide scanners for digitalization enabling also to perform histopathological analysis in a home-office setting one to two days per week. We recently acquired a CODEX (co-detection by indexing) platform, allowing us to perform high-dimensional multiple IF. We are part of several collaborative research centers, thus the successful applicant will also have the opportunity to take part in third party funding application processes. Writing own applications for external funding is strongly encouraged. We process around 600 projects per year with our in-house developed project-management structure for tissue-based research. Thus, the successful candidate will also have the opportunity to gain project management skills including business insights. The TUM, the medical faculty of TUM and our collaborative research structures provide an international environment with cutting-edge technologies and continuing education courses aiming at the individual development. Requirements We are looking for an enthusiastic pathologist (min. 3 years pathology training) to join our team in a PostDoc/Fellowship position. The responsibilities of the successful applicant will primarily include interpretation of animal models and comparative human pathology, as well as communication and documentation of results in a project-driven setup. Team-oriented communication with the laboratory staff and the ability to independently establish IHCmarkers and in situ-hybridization applications are a matter of course. Teaching responsibilities include comprehensive training of comparative pathology residents, as well as PhD students in biomedical research in sampling, processing and tissue-based evaluation. A doctoral degree/PhD as well as a board exam (ECVP/ACVP or German Fachtierarzt) would be beneficial but not essential, and candidates with project management experience will be preferred. An opportunity to enrol in a PhD/Dr. rer. nat. or habilitation programme can be discussed. The position will be limited to two years. Payment will be based on the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service of the Länder (TV-L). Veterinary Clinical Pathology Internship 2022-2023 Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine The Department of Pathobiology at Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine (TUCVM) is accepting applications for a 12-month Clinical Pathology Internship. Our program is designed for individuals seeking to have a foundation in diagnostic clinical pathology and desire to pursue a clinical pathology residency. The primary goal of this internship is to prepare the individual to be highly qualified and competitive for advancement into a residency in clinical pathology, and in the future, successful completion of the ACVP board examination. The incoming intern will join a team of two clinical pathologists, a clinical pathology clinical instructor, technical staff and engage with five anatomic pathologists, a clinical instructor of anatomic pathology and an anatomic pathology intern during rounds and case discussions. The successful candidate will receive training in several fields of clinical pathology including hematology, cytology (including sample acquisition), clinical chemistry and urinalysis. Training includes participating in clinical diagnostic service, regularly scheduled interactive rounds and presenting case discussions, small group teaching of fourth year and clinical skills for third year DVM students and a seminar at the annual TUCVM Symposium. Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited College of Veterinary Medicine or comparable foreign institution. The annual stipend is $27,000 and the program will begin July 1, 2022 and end June 30, 2023. The Department of Pathobiology at Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine (TUCVM) is accepting applications for our 1-year internship training position in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology. We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong interest in diagnostic anatomic pathology. This training position has been designed to prepare trainees for successful entry and completion of a residency in veterinary anatomic pathology. Under the guidance of 5 anatomic pathologists and 2 clinical pathologists, interns will develop skills in gross pathology and microscopic pathology by participating in diagnostic services and weekly rounds. The Tuskegee Veterinary Diagnostic laboratory receives approximately 340 necropsies (predominance of poultry, canine, caprine, and equine) and 200 biopsies, annually. In addition to performing necropsies and trimming biopsy samples for histological processing, evaluation and reporting, interns also have the opportunity to assist in the practical clinical training of 3rd and 4th year veterinary students on the Necropsy Clerkship. Weekly rounds include macroscopic rounds, microscopic rounds (WSC), pathology journal rounds, clinical chemistry rounds, cytology rounds and monthly inter-institutional lab animal rounds. We also support focused general pathology training to assist in preparation for the ACVP Phase I examination. The TUCVM is situated in the historic city of Tuskegee, Alabama. It is the only veterinary school on a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) campus and is the most diverse veterinary school in the country, graduating ~70% of all African American veterinarians in the United States. The anatomic pathology internship at Tuskegee was established in 1976 and has trained approximately 40 interns. How to Apply: This is a 1-year appointment that is scheduled to commence June 1, 2022. The Department of Veterinary Pathology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University invites applications for a combined PhD/Residency position in veterinary pathology. Job Title: William Iverson Professor of Toxicological Pathology Job Summary The Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Full-Time (12-Month) Tenure Track Assistant/Associate Professor of Veterinary Pathology in the Department of Comparative Pathobiology. Principal Duties Establishment of an extramurally funded independent research program in the area of toxicological pathology, teaching in the DVM and graduate programs, mentorship of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and support of biomedical research projects through the Center for Comparative Translational Research (CCTR). Toxicologic pathology may be broadly defined as the molecular and cellular responses of the body to chemicals and pharmaceuticals. Veterinary Anatomic Pathology Position The Long Island University College of Veterinary Medicine (LIU-CVM) located in beautiful Brookville, New York, invites applications from self-directed, motivated individuals to join the LIU veterinary pathology team composed of 3 board certified anatomic pathologists and one board certified clinical pathologist. The position may be filled at a full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor Level. We are seeking PhD and DVM academics interested in teaching in the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program. Successful candidates will be engaged in the College’s educational and diagnostic service activities. Priority will be given to candidates with solid diagnostic pathology and teaching background with proven skills in curriculum development, implementation, and innovation. Additionally, successful candidates must be naturally adept at promoting LIU-CVM’s mission of enhancing veterinary medical education through excellence in teaching, research and service, to a variety of stakeholders. All Assistant/ Associate Professor Candidates will be responsible for developing independent or collaborative research in disciplines that contribute to the College of Veterinary Medicine’s mission. Active engagement in curriculum development, identification or creation of innovative learning resources, committee service participation (such as admissions, curriculum, research, etc.), and collaborative scholarly activity is expected. About The College of Veterinary Medicine at Long Island University: In April 2020, LIU-CVM was granted Provisional Accreditation status by the AVMA Council on Education. With approximately fifty off-campus clinical sites, LIU CVM will utilize a distributed model of clinical education. In addition to teaching and research space, the College has modern physical facilities and laboratory equipment designed to provide pathology support (autopsy and histopathology services) to our clinical partners and to accommodate specific instructional needs connected to the DVM pathology courses. Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree, PhD or other earned doctoral degree in biomedical sciences. Board certification by the American or European College of Veterinary Pathologists (Anatomic Pathology), or eligibility to seat the American or European pathology boards, is required. Candidates will have a record of scholarly achievement as an independent and/or collaborative researcher consistent with appointed rank.
