Diagnostic Pathologist

The Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries is seeking applications for a veterinary anatomic pathologist at Thompson Bishop Sparks State Diagnostic Laboratory.
Thompson Bishop Sparks State Diagnostic Laboratory is the central reference laboratory in state animal diagnostic laboratory system that includes branch laboratories in Boaz, Elba, and Hanceville.
Laboratories provide animal disease diagnostic and regulatory testing for submitting veterinarians and private owners. The laboratory is located on the campus of the Auburn University, with close partnership with the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine.
Job Responsibilities
The focus of this position is contributing to the biopsy service, histopathology evaluations for branch/satellite laboratory cases, and performing necropsy and histopathology examinations for the necropsy service. The non-avian caseload will primarily include mammalian submissions and zoo and exotic cases. There is opportunity to participate in the avian diagnostic service. The pathologist is responsible for conducting necropsy and histopathology evaluations, communicating with clients orally and in writing, interpreting test results, contributing to the weekend and holiday necropsy service by rotating with other pathologists, staff training and supervision, and participation in the laboratory
Quality Management system.
Requirements
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from an AVMA recognized school or college of veterinary medicine, and U.S. citizenship status. Board certification by the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) is preferred, or board eligibility for phase II of the ACVP examination.

Salary
