About the role

We are looking for a Principal Veterinarian (Pathology) to join our high performing team in Animal Biosecurity and Welfare. As Principal Veterinarian (Pathology), you will play a key leadership role in delivering high-quality veterinary diagnostic and surveillance services. This senior position oversees complex disease investigations and provides expert pathology insights across both terrestrial and aquatic animal species and requires advanced expertise in veterinary pathology, strong team leadership, and the ability to collaborate effectively across a wide range of stakeholders. Your work will contribute to animal health, biosecurity, and market access outcomes at both state and national levels. This includes: 

• Applying specialist knowledge and skills in veterinary pathology to support the effective delivery of veterinary diagnostic services. 

• Leading a team of veterinary pathologists and support staff to deliver advanced diagnostic and surveillance testing. 

• Fostering strong working relationships with external stakeholders at the national, state and local level to enhance engagement and collaboration

About the role
We are seeking a skilled Senior Veterinarian (Pathology) to join the Biosecurity Sciences Laboratory. In this key role, you will provide expert diagnostic insights and lead complex disease investigations to support Queensland’s animal health and biosecurity preparedness. Your work will contribute to the detection and management of priority animal diseases through surveillance, diagnostics and response activities. As our Senior Veterinarian (Pathology), you will play a vital role in protecting Queensland's animal health and supporting market access through the delivery of high-quality veterinary diagnostic services. Your work will directly contribute to the early detection, diagnosis, and response to animal diseases through surveillance, diagnostics and response activities, helping to safeguard our livestock industries, wildlife and communities.

In this role you will:

• apply specialist veterinary pathology skills to diagnose and respond to animal diseases, supporting surveillance and market access outcomes
• build strong relationships with stakeholders and colleagues to enhance collaboration, service delivery, and scientific excellence
• contribute to a high-performing team through mentoring, professional development, and readiness to support emergency response activities.
