The Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University <https://psu.edu/>seeks applications for a 48-week, clinical non-tenure-track faculty position in diagnostic mammalian pathology at the level of Clinical Assistant/Associate/Full Professor at the Penn State Animal Diagnostic Laboratory (ADL). This is a full-time position, renewed annually and the appointment will include responsibilities in diagnostic service (70%), research (20%), and teaching (10%). Primary duties of the position will include the following: *Diagnostic Service*: Performing gross and histopathologic examinations on diagnostic necropsy cases, writing necropsy reports, consulting with submitting veterinarians and clients, assisting with undergraduate and veterinary extern instruction, and assisting with the instruction of residents. The position will also require communicating results and providing interpretation to clients (other ADL diagnosticians, client veterinarians and animal owners, livestock producers, regulatory agency officials, etc.), for which knowledge of animal agriculture or experience as a food animal practitioner in Pennsylvania will be an advantage as this position will entail working with the mammalian field investigation group. The individual in this position will ensure implementation of quality control/assurance and safety, develop, or expand new test offerings/test platforms, and represent the mammalian pathology section both within PADLS and externally at scientific/veterinary meetings and conferences. This incumbent when required will provide managerial oversight for daily operations of the pathology section and supervise technical staff, train, and mentor staff and students. *Research*: The successful applicant is highly encouraged to develop a basic or applied collaborative research program relevant to animal and/ human health. The successful applicant is also expected to disseminate information at professional meetings and through appropriate publications. Lab space and a generous start-up research funds will be considered, based on proposed research initiatives/projects by the incumbent. *Teaching*: The successful candidate is expected to contribute to team teaching of VBSC 420, Principles of Animal Pathology, and/or other courses in a new developed minor in “One Health”. Applicants must hold a DVM/VMD (or equivalent) degree and a board certification (American Association of Veterinary Pathologists) in anatomic pathology as a requirement for this position. A Ph.D. and/or postdoctoral experience in a relevant field of biomedical or veterinary research is desirable, but not essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to engage professionally with a diverse population of faculty, staff, students, and others across the university and community are required. The ADL is part of the American Association of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosticians accredited tripartite Pennsylvania Animal Diagnostic Laboratory System (PADLS) ( http://www.padls.org). Animal Diagnostic Laboratory is a full service, AAVLD accredited, NAHLN laboratory with histopathology, necropsy, virology, serology, microbiology, parasitology, and molecular biology sections. Although companion animals do comprise a small portion of the case load, this position is primarily intended to enhance pathology diagnostic services for animal agriculture. The PADLS system performs several thousand diagnostic tests each year on a wide variety of food and companion animals and wildlife species. The PADLS diagnosticians collaborate on research projects, provide consultation and expert advice to clientele, commodity interest groups, veterinarians, research scientists, perform state and federal disease monitoring and surveillance programs, support field investigations and outreach/ extension activities.
