Tomorrow, Dr. Dennis Wilson, Professor Emeritus of the University of California at Davis will give a lecture on “Animal Models of Respiratory Disease” which wile aimed at Australian pathologists who get out of bed on Saturday mornings, is available to the rest of the world as well (sorry again Europe - you always seem to be in bed for our seminars!). This seminar, which originates in California from 5-7PM (it’s late for me too, but I have to start it up at 8PM) will cover selected airway and parenchymal disease of domestic and laboratory species, including asthma, diffuse alveolar disease, and fibrotic diseases across various species. The lecture will collate cutting edge general pathology with histologic appearances of these various conditions. Dennis Wilson received undergraduate and veterinary medical degrees at the University of Illinois where he also obtained a master’s degree in Environmental Toxicology. After a short period of veterinary practice, he trained in Veterinary Pathology at the University of California-Davis where he received a PhD in Comparative Pathology and ACVP certification in 1982. After joining the faculty at Davis, he developed a research program in environmentally induced cardiopulmonary disease which continued until his retirement in 2015. He was at various times Associate Director for diagnostic services at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Director of the Environmental Pathology Training Program, Chairman of the Graduate Group in Comparative Pathology, Member of the ACVP Anatomic Pathology Examination Committee, and Chairman of the Department of Pathology, . Since entering emeritus status, he is a volunteer at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and consults in lung disease research.
