POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT *POSITION: *Anatomic Veterinary Pathologist, Clinical-Track Department of Pathobiology College of Veterinary Medicine Auburn University, Alabama *RANK: *Assistant Clinical Professor, Associate Clinical Professor or Clinical Professor *POSITION AVAILABLE: *January 1, 2022 *QUALIFICATIONS: *Minimum qualifications include D.V.M. degree (or equivalent) and diplomate status in anatomic pathology from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, the European College of Veterinary Pathologists, or the Royal College of Pathologists at the time the appointment begins. Desired qualifications include excellence in didactic classroom or small group instruction, excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and a record of teaching/educational scholarship. *RESPONSIBILITIES: *The department has a rich history in the scholarship of pedagogy, applied medicine and the advancement of pathology. The candidate should be committed to the Auburn tradition of training practice ready veterinarians. Auburn is collectively dedicated to residency training in anatomic pathology through communal interactions between faculty and residents with enhanced resident rounds in various fields and serving as a Davis-Thompson Foundation repository. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the anatomic pathology service. Service duties include performing post-mortem examinations and serving as a senior pathologist for the surgical biopsy service. Training and supervision of anatomic pathology residents and graduate students combined with clinical training of veterinary students will be a major expectation. Case accessions for 2020 included approximately 2600 surgical biopsies and 500 necropsies. Didactic teaching responsibilities include participation in the professional veterinary medical curriculum and graduate curriculum. Pedagogy and scholarly activity will be synergistic with the College’s research, teaching and clinical service missions. *ACTIVITIES: *The Department of Pathobiology has diagnostic focus areas in anatomic pathology, clinical pathology, microbiology/virology, molecular diagnostics and parasitology. The Department of Pathobiology is composed of a dynamic group of faculty with 5 ACVP board certified anatomic pathologists, 5 ACVP board certified clinical pathologists and a board certified parasitologist. The Department boasts an automated histopathology laboratory, a full-time necropsy technician and an advanced, modern necropsy facility with enhanced biosecurity and rounds room with interactive technology including virtual slide microscopy. In addition, the College of Veterinary Medicine has a recently constructed Veterinary Education Center with state of the art technology dedicated to the enhancement of teaching. There is strong cooperative interactivity with the Thompson Bishop Sparks Alabama State Diagnostic Laboratory which is located on the veterinary campus. The state diagnostic laboratory has four (4) ACVP board certified anatomic pathologists and numerous ancillary laboratories designed to enhance diagnostic capabilities. Opportunities for collaborative research exist for the successful candidate. Departmental research programs exist in aquatic pathobiology, molecular virology and bacteriology, molecular diagnostics, food safety, pathogen detection, basic and applied immunology, parasitology, platelet pathophysiology, molecular genetics, oncology, pathogenic mechanisms of infectious diseases, embryo-pathogen interactions, epidemiology, poultry pathology and neuropathology. Additional programs exist with opportunities for collaboration within the College of Veterinary Medicine and with faculty from across Auburn University (including the Samuel Ginn College of Engineering, College of Science and Mathematics, and Harrison School of Pharmacy). University core facilities support advanced microscopy and imaging, laser microdissection, multispectral imaging, and flow cytometry-FACS.
