Hello!

I am reaching out to see if there are any Davis-Thompson Members that have an interest in equine toxicologic pathology. One of our faculty members has a research project at UT that requires a drug safety assessment for between 24-32 horses. The researchers are looking for options for histopathology and our service is operating at maximum capacity just within the diagnostic realm. We are happy to perform the necropsies and collect tissues but are looking for a ACVP board-certified pathologist comfortable in drug safety studies to perform the histopathologic assessment required.

For a little background on the study: The compound is from a novel class of analgesics (there are no drugs currently on the market from this class). A formulation is currently in phase 1b FDA clinical trial in humans. We are evaluating the veterinary formulation. Where the latter works across species, the former is specific to humans with minimal to no activity in animals. There are in vitro and in vivo studies that indicate it is a promising treatment for neuropathic conditions and in horses it is specifically being evaluated for laminitis and osteoarthritis with positive results.
