Dear colleagues Welcome to the September issue of the Davis-Thompson Foundation Newsletter. As always, this is the result of the great job done by our brilliant managing editors Drs. Jeann Leal and Javier Asin. with the collaboration of many volunteers. It is with a heavy heart that I start this message announcing the passing of our dear colleague and friend, Dr Valentín Pérez, a Professor of Veterinary Pathology at the University of León, Spain. Valentín passed away prematurely at the age of 58 on August 7th. Valentín was a wonderful colleague, a great teacher and researcher, and a frequent and generous presenter for the Foundation. With his death, the entire veterinary pathology community loses one of its finest members. Please see the Obituary presented by the Spanish Society of Anatomic Veterinary Pathology in the following pages. As always, this edition has announcements on abundant opportunities in person and virtual all over the world, in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Great news for our Portuguese-speaking colleagues: this month we will be uploading to our website a free Portuguese translation of Chris Gardiner's Atlas of metazoan parasites in animal tissues, generously translated by Dr Igor Santos (thank you Igor!!). Last but not least, please have a look at the "Volunteer corner" a new volunteer appreciation section prepared by Dr Rafaela de Negri (thank you Rafa!). We expect this to be a permanent feature in our Newsletter as a way to acknowledge the terrific job done by all our volunteers all over the world.
