*Veterinary Pathologist, Division of Comparative Medicine, Washington University in St. Louis, St. Louis, MO* *9/1/21* This position is for a veterinary pathologist or laboratory animal veterinarian, responsible for provision of diagnostic pathology services, including anatomic and clinical pathology, histology, molecular pathology, and necropsy services. Consults with principal investigators regarding research protocols and animal model development. Supervises research diagnostic technicians. *Primary Duties & Responsibilities* · Provide gross and microscopic veterinary pathology services for research animals. Diagnose disease in animals by necropsy and appropriate laboratory testing. · Read studies, consult, author comprehensive pathology narrative reports detailing all gross, microscopic, and diagnostic findings, conduct pathological and diagnostic assessments for the rodent sentinel program and for diagnosis of spontaneous clinical cases. · Consult with researchers and veterinary staff to provide pathology and diagnostic support as requested. Interpret experimental results and consult with the research staff for the design and implementation of experiments, including phenotyping genetically engineered mice. · Supervise necropsies and diagnostic assays involving a wide variety of laboratory animals and provide supervision and scientific guidance to diagnostic lab technicians to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable regulatory requirements, protocols and Standard Operating Procedures. · Perform other duties as assigned. *Preferred Qualifications* · Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathology (ACVP) or the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine (ACLAM) · Three or more years of relevant experience. · Proficient computer skills. · Eligible for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the State of Missouri. · Accreditation by the USDA. *Critical Skills* · Ability to perform necropsy, evaluate histopathology slides, and write necropsy reports suitable for research or regulatory purposes. · Ability to evaluate microbiology, serology, PCR, clinical chemistry, diagnostic bloodwork, and other diagnostic test results. · Broad knowledge of laboratory animal health/medicine, diagnostics, pathology, treatment, surgical procedures, and clinical care of a wide variety of research animal species. · Demonstrated decision making skills with ability to work meeting goals and deadlines. · Ability to work collaboratively with principal investigators, research staff, veterinary staff, veterinary technicians and husbandry staff. · Effective written, verbal, and interpersonal communication and organization skills with the ability to interact with all levels of the DCM and research staff. · Proficiency, knowledge and experience with computers and Microsoft Office Suite tools, including Outlook, Excel, Access, etc. · Ability to work required occasional after hours, weekend, and holidays for coverage for urgent pathology cases. *Minimum Requirements* DVM or equivalent degree from an AVMA Council on Education accredited veterinary college or school. *Pre-Employment Screening* All external candidates receiving an offer for employment will be required to submit to pre-employment screening for this position.
