Text: Position Title: Clinical or Tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor – Anatomic Pathology Appointment Type: Faculty Job Description: Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: The Department of Veterinary Pathology in the College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University (ISU), located in Ames, Iowa, invites applications for a full-time, clinical-track or tenure-track faculty position in Anatomic Pathology. The qualifications, documented experience, and interests of the selected candidate will determine appointment rank. Position responsibilities include a primary commitment to service and teaching. The department has a busy and expanding biopsy service with submissions from the ISU Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC) as well as practicing veterinarians in the surrounding region. The department provides a complete necropsy service for the diverse species submitted to the ISU small and large animal clinics. These necropsy cases provide material for instructing senior veterinary students and pathology residents in necropsy techniques and lesion interpretation. The department has a strong commitment to teaching and the successful candidate is expected to actively participate in the teaching mission of the department, which offers courses in anatomic pathology and pathology-related disciplines to undergraduate, professional (DVM), and graduate students. The candidate should have experience with graduate/postsecondary teaching and/or advanced certification in teaching (graduate or postsecondary teaching certificate). The candidate is expected to advance the discipline of anatomic pathology through creation and dissemination of new knowledge and participating in collaborative research by providing expertise to faculty who would benefit from the insights and expertise of an anatomic pathologist. For an individual on the clinical track, scholarly activity would include publishing case series and case reports and/or participating in collaborative research. For appointment in the tenure-track, collaboration and expertise resulting in peer-reviewed publications is expected. Research areas in the department include, but not are limited to, animal models of human disease, infectious diseases, carcinogenesis, toxicology, host-pathogen interactions, parasitology, scholarship of teaching and learning, and comparative pathology. Candidates at the Associate Professor level will have documented evidence of scholarship, teaching, and clinical service appropriate for the rank. The successful candidate will also have a collegial, collaborative attitude and willingness to participate in all levels of student education. The candidate will be highly self-motivated, innovative, and will possess excellent communication skills including experience connecting with a broad audience. Furthermore, the candidate will demonstrate professional maturity with a leadership style that contributes to a positive culture, and have a compassionate and empathetic nature towards the clients and patients of the ISU LVMC. All faculty and staff members are expected to interact in a collegial and professional manner and maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethics. Required Minimum Qualifications: DVM or equivalent degree Successful completion of an Anatomic Pathology residency training program through the American College of Veterinary Pathologists (ACVP) or European College of Veterinary Pathologists (ECVP) or Japanese College of Veterinary Pathologists (JCVP) and eligibility to sit for 2024 Phase II Certifying Exam of the ACVP/ECVP/JCVP In addition to the requirements above, below are minimum qualifications at the following ranks: CLINICAL ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: Eligibility to take ACVP Phase II Certifying Exam August 2024 CLINICAL ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: Graduate degree, Diplomate ACVP/ECVP/JCVP; minimum 5 years’ experience professional practice with emphasis on companion animal, production animal and equine pathology. ASSISTANT PROFESSOR: Ph.D., eligibility to take ACVP/ECVP/JCVP Phase II Certifying Exam August 2024 ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR: Ph.D., Diplomate ACVP/ECVP/JCVP; minimum 5 years’ experience professional practice with emphasis on companion animal, production animal and equine pathology, record of scholarship and teaching and experience, experience with resident training Preferred Qualifications: Post-Residency experience in diagnostic pathology, including biopsy and necropsy service involving companion animal, production animal, and equine pathology Experience in anatomic pathology teaching (includes teaching as a Resident, didactic and/or laboratory setting) Graduate or postsecondary teaching certificate Research Experience (publications, grants, graduate student mentorship) Certification in Anatomic Pathology from the American College of Veterinary Pathologists, European College of Veterinary Pathologists, or Japanese College of Veterinary Pathologists MS or PhD or equivalent degree in Veterinary Pathology, Microbiology, Virology, Education, or other related veterinary fields Department/Program & College Description: The LVMC is a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide specialized care and comprehensive medical and surgical services for companion and large animals throughout Iowa and surrounding states.
