CHAIR OF THE DEPARTMENT OF COMPARATIVE PATHOBIOLOGY Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University is seeking a chair for the Department of Comparative Pathobiology (formerly the Department of Biomedical Sciences). The department is committed to excellence in its education, research, and diagnostic service missions. Currently carrying out this mission are 18 faculty, 16 staff members, as well as residents, postdoctoral scholars, and graduate students. Faculty members teach basic and diagnostic sciences across the DVM curriculum and within our graduate programs. Federally and privately funded research programs within the department include neuroscience, reproductive biology, and pathology. In addition, faculty provide anatomic and clinical pathology expertise for our academic clinical and research programs, and support our laboratory animal medicine service. The chair, reporting directly to the dean, will be responsible for leading an inclusive strategic vision for the future growth of the department. The chair is also expected to support the professional development of faculty and staff, and to foster collaborative research within the department and across the University. This individual will manage the department budget and administrative affairs, and work collaboratively with colleagues and senior leadership at the school and university level. QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess a DVM, or equivalent degree, and/or a PhD, and have an academic background that aligns with the strengths of the department, with demonstrated academic leadership experience and an understanding of the research and academic diagnostic environments. For holders of a DVM degree, a PhD or board certification will be considered an asset. The successful applicant will have administrative and management skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, a strong record of scholarly activities, and a demonstrated ability to mentor DVM students and advanced trainees. Experience in promoting diversity/inclusion and a demonstrated ability to work with others and build a collegial team atmosphere are essential. Academic rank, expected to be either an associate or full professor, and salary will be commensurate with experience.
